Hi all,

Applying Inbound Sponsorship

I am wondering if anyone can help me with a small query. I am just about to apply for permanent residency via Sponsorship with my common law partner. He is a Canadian citizen, I am an Irish citizen. I have been living in Canada for two years with an open work permit via the IEC programme. My work permit expires at the end of March and I am including an application for an open work permit with my sponsorship application that we are submitting tomorrow.

In form imm5710, I am a bit confused about where I stand with question 3. I am just wondering if I select 'A work permit with the same employer' or 'An initial work permit or a work permit with a new employer'. My current open work permit does not expire until March 31st 2018 so I know I don't need a restoration.

Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Jane

I have a feeling it is An initial work permit or a work permit with a new employer, but I just wanted to double check with more experienced folk! :)

Hi

Select "Initial work permit". Note that you cannot work while on Implied Status.

As you are close to your work permit expiring, you should consider applying for a visitor extension as well, as a backup in case your PR/OWP app is returned for any reason. This will prevent you from going out of status.

Hi again, sorry to bother you, I have a small query do I need to submit the visitor extension with my PR/OWP application or can I do that separately online?

The visitor extension would be done separately from the PR/OWP app.

Apologies, me again. I was wondering if you would suggest applying for visitor for six months or a full year to cover the duration of the application process?

6 months is fine, as it is really just a back up for he OWP.
