I have been working as a postdoctoral fellow for close to 2 yrs (LMIA EXEMPT) in New Brunswick. I applied for my work permit extension (under same employer) 2.5 months before my expiry date. I was denied an extension based on a non receipt of the compliance fee and new offer of employment number which both the University and me had processed as well as provided. Clearly it appears to be a technical glitch on CIC's part. However, since the processing time took almost 85 days, I now have lost my status (my TRV has expired as well). I have been provided with a grace period of 90 days to restore my status during which I won't be able to work. Under this scenario, I was wondering if it is a better option to apply for a new work permit and TRV from outside Canada. (It took me under a month to get my first work permit from India). Do any of you have an experience of doing so? Is there any difficulties to this process as I am still in Canada after I have lost my status (been 2 days only). Any help regarding this matter will be extremely helpful. Thank you.
