I am a temporary foregin worker on a work permit . I have been in Canada for almost 2years . My current work permit expires on 30th of June 2012 . I was recently offered a permanent position . My new employers are going through there internal appointment system to generate a formal letter of offer .
Only after they generate this and I sign it , can they apply for the LMO . I will require at minimum confirmation of LMO application and the offer letter before I can apply for my work permit . I am hoping that I will have these documents before my current work permit expires . My new employers are working towards this timeline but cant guarntee that these documents can be provided before June 30th. What happens if I cant apply before my current pernit expires - do lose my right of residence immediately or can I stay here and apply for restoration of status after my permit expires , once my employers give me the paperwork I require ? Thanks

1. You have to stop work when your work permit expires. (As you won't have an LMO and haven't applied for an extension, implied status doesn't apply)
2. You will have to apply for an extension as a visitor and if you get a positive LMO, then as a visitor you would have to either apply at an overseas office or POE if eligible.
3. As LMOs take 6-12 weeks for approval/refusal, it is quite likely that your 90 day period for restoration would run out, and then you would have no option but to leave Canada.
