Hi guys,

I'm German, 25 yrs old and applied for a work & travel visa.
I now received a work permit, but it doesn't really say how long I can work for, other than the usual that a foreigner can work up to 4 yrs and then has to wait 2 yrs.
It doesn't state work& travel anywhere. Does that mean I received an open work permit and for how long can I work?

Thanks for your help! I'm a bit confused...

Assuming you applied under the IEC (WHP) rather than the young professionals, you get a 1 year open work permit when you enter Canada.

Thanks v much for your reply!

Could the immigration officer at the airport extend that to up to 4 yrs as well, or will it automatically be 1 yr?

No, it is for 1 year only, and you can only participate in the IEC (WHP) once.
