Hi everyone,

If anyone has been in my case before please give me some advice. I study 2yrs Accounting co-op program and I am having my final co-op now. After I finish this coop term I will be eligible to graduate. I can only applied for my PGWPP after I get my Graduate Certificate or letter the college official confirm that I eligible to graduate. And that will be after Dec 2019, I will received these letter. The problem is my employer may hire a permanent position for my current coop accountant position now and I don't want to pass this chance in order to work full time in Canada. I still have my work-permit and it will expired on Aug 2020. I don't know if I can work full-time while waiting for my PGWPP or I have to wait until I got my post-graduate work permit. I read on Canada.com about this issue:

"
Can I apply for a job before I get my post-graduation work permit?
Yes, but only if you:

  • were a full-time student at a designated learning institution (DLI) in a post-secondary academic, vocational or professional training program,
  • already completed your program of study, and
  • didn't exceed the number of hours you could work on and off-campus.
If we refuse your post-graduation work permit, you must stop working immediately."

and
"

Can I work while I am waiting to receive my post-graduation work permit?
You can work full-time while waiting for a decision on your post-graduation work permit application if, at the time you submitted your application, you:

  • had a valid study permit,
  • had completed your program of study,
  • were eligible to work off-campus without a permit, and
  • did not work off-campus more than 20 hours a week during academic sessions."

As above, it said that I can work but it is pretty confuse: if we about to graduate then how it have the condition of "didn't exceed the number of hours you could work on and off-campus." and "did not work off-campus more than 20 hours a week during academic sessions." . Is this answer for a "graduate student" or for still a student on their study.

Can anyone have experienced this before?

Read this link which clarifies the time you are allowed to work between the time you complete and the time you receive your completion letter.

Thank you for your reply Bs65. I read it but it look like the case is not applied to me. As I will apply for post-graduate work permit (PGWPP) when I receive my confirm letter from college.
"
Students who have not applied for a subsequent study or work permit or a program of study
Students may work off campus on a part-time basis if the following applies:

  • they meet the eligibility criteria to work off campus [R186(v)]
  • they have completed the final academic requirements for their program of study but have not yet received written confirmation of program completion from their institution (for instance, a transcript, an official letter or an email)
  • they have not applied for a work permit (for instance, a post-graduation work permit or a work permit with a valid Labour Market Impact Assessment) or a study permit extension or enrolled in a subsequent program of study"
In my case: that is the time between waiting for my work-permit can I be able to work full-time. Anyway, thank you so much. I want to ask that is it possible for us to call CIC or contact by email to ask about these kind of problem. Thank you
