Hello,
I need advise about work experience. If one has diploma in one field, but worked in totally different field four years long without diploma, can this 4-year experience substitute the diploma?
thank you

Hi Suin,

If you have diploma in one field then you have to show your experience in the same field. For example if you have diploma in the field of finance then you have to show your experience in the same field. You need atleast one year experience in the same field.

nope, for canadian immigration, your education and experience do not neet to be the related. what you are saying holds true for australian immigration, but not canadian immigration.

Hi Ja77,

Thanks for the reply.

Well I have applied in this way and many I know who have applied in the same way.

do you have any link that can proof these words? how to be sure?

Hi Suin,

Please check the below link and check point number 6.

thank you for your reply, SunnyDXB.

I checked the link, but there's nothing mentioned there related to diploma and experience that should match or it is possible to have work and education in different fields.
where can I get the answer to this question?

Hi Suin,

Please check below CIC website. Go to page 4 category section. In that it clearly mention that you should have atleast one year experience in the 38 distinct occupations.

i am second to Ja77

Officer must:

• not take into account whether the applicant meets the “Employment requirements”
description set forth in the NOC for the occupation(s) listed;

• award points only if the applicant has performed the actions described in the lead statement
of the particular NOC description and has performed at least a substantial number of the
duties described in the “Main Duties” summary – including all the essential duties (R80(3));

Note: Neither the NOC nor the Regulations distinguish between “essential” and “non-essential” duties or
provide guidance as to what constitutes a “substantial number”. This is left as a matter for
assessment on a case-by-case basis. If officers have concerns about whether or not the applicant has
carried out “a substantial number of the main duties...including all of the essential duties,” they should
give the applicant an opportunity to respond to these concerns.

• take into account any years of experience that occur between application and assessment,
and for which the applicant has submitted the necessary documentation (R77).

38 occupation list is not that qualification and profession should match ... If ur profession match with 38 occuption list, then ur eligible for FSW1 .But list is not related to education.all is depend upon ur work experience only.

does it mean that I can apply for FSW if I worked two years on NOC 0111 (finances) but have diploma on Hotel business (actually never worked on this NOC, just have my diploma) that is not in the list of 38 , I can apply and succeed in FSW program?

The requirement is that you have the experience, it does not matter if you do not meet the normal prerequisite for the position as long as you can prove that you have performed adequately at such positions with the related job duties descriptions matching those from NOC. See IRPR 80(1) and 80(3).

You may apply based on your existing experience.
The successful outcome of your application is based on the immigration officer's discretion.
