We are getting the app together and I read these posts of rejection and of course get a brick in my stomach. We have some things like age difference and previous marriages with children that are not his but all our t's are crossed in terms of letters for immigration for the children.
I have this discussion a lot with my fiance on what if we get rejected and he seems to think that is nonsense. Well I know we are genuine and can prove it just still worry. I am from the US and have had no desire to ever move to Canada save the fact that fiance is there. HE could be on the north pole for that matter.
We are going to see each other more often now that he is running in the states for a company so I think this will help plus he will meet my family but still I worry for an appeal process.
So how many rejections are given from those from countries like US and England for example?

No idea on the numbers, but I suspect that they may not be published in a form that would be useful.
No doubt the numbers could be used to "prove" profiling actually happens.

There is not much to separate taking the process seriously and worrying like mad - what you feel depends on how you wake up in the morning ;D ;D

I know that approximately 20% of all spousal/cl partner/conjugal partner decided at overseas visa posts are refused. However, I have no idea about the percentage of refusals at various visa offices. To obtain that information, you would have to do an Access to Information Request.

Reading through the various threads devoted to different embassies, you can get an idea of where refusals are higher. Accra comes to mind immediately. However, one of the aspects that is considered by a VO is "benefit" and this is less of an issue when the applicant comes from a country where the standard of living is very similar to that of Canada.

Don't stress yourself out over this. It will truly make you crazy.

I know I have not even mailed out the app yet and I look at my pics and think are these good enough? Is the letters we wrote sufficient? Etc. AHHHHHHHHHHHH
I did try to google to get an idea on rejection but you are right there really isn't anything concrete out there most likely because of profiling. For a joke I always say if I get called into an interview I am going with a list of all the things I will lose out on by leaving the US such as better cell phone plans, cheaper groceries and better road system.

Yeah, good idea, but don't forget the internet is far better in the US. :D

If the OP really wanted to know (God knows why) S/he could submit an Access to Info. request as to the No. of Applications, No. of refusals, family class, spouse, by overseas office, by year. You get 5hours of prep and search time for your $5.00. If it will be longer (it is a computer search) they will give you an estimate of the cost.

And the submission should be made to who, CIC ?

I can't see the benefit, maybe it would be better to put the $5 towards buying a bottle of wine - and relax :)

I submitted a request through the Access to Information office about the refusal rates by race of sponsor through the Accra high commission, but they said they don't keep statistics on race. They did give me a nice breakdown of the number of refusals of spousal sponsorships there for the last 10 years.

To the OP: as a general rule, refusal rates are higher in poor countries. Countries from the 'first world' have low refusal rates. So an American/Canadian couple has a much better chance than a couple where the applicant is from the third world. Still, there are some anomalies: Beijing has a much lower refusal rate than Hong Kong, for example. Why? I would think the number of fake marriages in northern and southern China would be about the same, but evidently CIC doesn't think so.

Ya I just find it interesting. I keep analyzing why we would possibly be refused where as fiance just sits back and relaxes. Must be all that Canadian beer. Anyway I suppose I will do the strongest app possible and just wait it out.

I think this is not about beer, it is about being Canadian.

We all have to wait it out, and I guess that we all get stressed at some time (even some Canadians) ;D
