Is there any HOWTO/useful links for shopping around for winter clothing? How to go about "layering" clothes? Sorry about these naive queries, but it is genuine concern for people not used to severe winter weather. Looking to complete shopping within $500-600 with the objective of getting good protection (something in the mid-range; neither expensive nor cheap).

Thank You

It all depends on where you are going. Northern BC, Yukon you buy "long johns" wool, layered clothing, down jacket suitable for -40. Go to Vancouver, you buy waterproof/breathable clothing.
Canada is a big country, with many different climate zones.

This funny - not ha ha funny but situational funny. My love landed in too many snow drifts because he grew up in SoCal and refused to wear winter boots because they were ugly and unattractive.

In the winter, the goal is to stay relatively warm and stay on your feet! If you get to look good and be comfortable doing it then BONUS!
