Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
So, a lot of my applications to fast food restaurants that had LMOs fell through because I had no experience, despite the fact that the job is advertised as a no-experience-required job. I always keep coming close to getting LMOs but end up not getting them due to my lack of work experience in hospitality. Some employers said that my work permit will be refused without experience. However, one of my potential employers told me that it's still worth applying for since he's had several people from overseas who began working for him with no experience although the chances of work permit approval are reduced without experience. I've also recently stumbled across two more employers who say that they're OK with my lack of work experience in hospitality (maybe they haven't yet made the mistake of wasting an LMO on an inexperienced foreigner).

How much does no experience reduce your chances of work permit approval if you have an LMO? I have a high school and some college education, some work experience in other non-hospitality areas (not much since I'm still young and spent a few years in college), and I seem to fill all the criteria on their document checklist if I get a job offer with an LMO. Are my chances of approval really reduced that much due to inexperience? What is the probability of successfully getting a work permit in my case if I get hired?

I am just telling you what I've heard so don't quote me on this. When applying for the work permit, they usually look at the requirements advertised for the job and what you have. It doesnt make sense for an employer to say one thing for their LMO and then ask for more stuff. From persons I have spoken to, they all had no experience in the field and got their work permits. I think the people that got refused might have been for other reasons. I think you should just try your luck, get the job, put all the documents together and send it off. Good luck!

Is NOT going to be rejected for this reason. Both me and my spouse are temporary workers in Canada, with no related experience at all. For example, my husband took his class 1 driver license here and with no experience back home now is driving here on valid work permit.

I recently got a job in the fast food sector and never had any experience. Now since I had a degree one of the first questions from the immigration officer was why are you working fast food when you are educated? Just make sure you are ready to answer that question truthfully and there shouldn't be any problems. For me the answer was that it was hard enough finding any work in Canada at all, with the LMO barrier, that I'd rather have a stable income while looking for work in my sector. Most of the time you have no clue if it's going to take 3 or 12 months till you find something.

Thanks for all the answers. That's quite a load off my mind for now.
