I am currently 'in the pool' waiting for an invitation from CIC to work in Canada. I applied 1 year ago and have been in the pool ever since. My girlfriend and I have decided that we're going to get married and apply inland for permanent residency that way so we can be together while we wait. Is this still possible for us or does my current visa application cancel all others out? Could we still go through the marriage route or will it look suspicious as I am 'in the pool'

Do you mean that your initial application was to work in Canada temporarily? If so, I think what you're talking about is dual intent: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/temp/visa/dual.asp

I applied for a working holiday under the International Experience Canada applicatio to be precise

I applied for a PR under the common law thing while I was waiting for my IEC to be approved. This did not seem to affect each other. I have to say though that I applied for the IEC in I believe february and it was approved 1st of april. Right about the time we sent in the PR application. Which was approved in early June. Could you find you why yours is taking so long?

Apparently I'm just waiting for an invitation from CIC along with hundreds or maybe thousands of others and its down to 'luck of the draw'. I applied through an agency which cost a lot of money but they have a very high % of positive reviews

I would check with the agency. According to the cic website it's first in first out for IEC.

The 2 apps have nothing to do with each other.

I suggest you apply outland if you go through sponsorship.

That was the original plan but I want to be with her while we wait and I can't afford to be in Canada and not working for the year it will take to get my visa from the Outland app. Why do most people seem to be against inland? Is it more difficult to get or something?

It's not more difficult, but it takes much longer. Outland can be almost twice as fast as inland, or more, depending on your country of origin and the relationship.

Paying an agency for an IEC visa is a waste of money, unless you are really bad at filling out forms.

I see you are from the UK. If you feel you really can't afford it, then go for the inland app. I'd suggest researching what the times are for UK outland citizens. Some outland apps go through faster than just getting the inland work permit.
