Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows whether my background check will take longer as I lived in an Asian country for 15 years, I'm an Irish passport holder but lived abroad with my family for a long time....could that mean that it would take longer compared to a straightforward case?

If your record is clean, I would assume your case is going to be treated as "straightforward ". I moved around all my life as well, and they didn't give me any trouble when I requested my background check.

Unless you need your record from multiple countries... Then that might get annoying for you, but the process itself shouldn't take longer.

Thanks for your informative reply! :)

Maybe the process took longer for me by a few weeks, because they requested a 2nd Russian police certificate (they didn't like the first one) and that took me over 2 months to get. When I sent that in, I got Decision Made and my COPR was sent. (I lived in Russia for 11 years, also a couple in the US). So maybe if they hadn't quibbled over the 1st Russian Police Certificate that I had sent, maybe I might have gotten PR in 5 months instead of 7. (My VO has a processing time of 15 months.)

I guess getting all those different PCs will be a hassle for you, but it shouldn't make a huge difference to CIC. Living in multiple countries isn't a red flag for them - there are other issues that are red flags and may significantly slow down your case, but not this.
