Dear All,

I am new here and need help. I applied for spousal sponsorship in November to Mississauga and the file was transferred in Dec 2010, but unfortunately my wife was diagnosed with Cancer in January. I am wandering will it effect her application? Has any one seen or heard of any thing like that? My wife did her medical check up for CIC in October.

Please help.

Welcome to the board.

First of all, sorry to hear about your wife. You should focus on getting her treatment and hope for a speedy recovery.

To answer your question, I would need to know what Visa office is processing her file? How long does it take for the whole immigration process through that Visa office?

Lets say it takes 9 months from the time of application to get the visa. If thatz the case, then she would get her visa by september. This way she won't have to get the re-medical done.

Welcome to the board, sorry to read about your wife, is it terminal cancer ?

I am sorry to hear above about your spouse and I wish and pray she should recover quickly.

As Danny said we need to know the visa officer to find out the timeline. At this point I would say since the medical is already done which will be valid for 1 year from the date its done so leave as it is, I think no need to inform them about this at this stage, wait untill they ask for re-medical after 1 yrs. Things may get change she will be recovered and also she may get the visa before the medical expiry date. I pray for you.

First of all sorry to hear about your wife brother. For your question, I am not 100% sure but I think it will effect your file with CHC as they will be concern that your wife will be using a lot of medical resources right after her medical benefit gets granted. Thats the reason every new comer has to wait 3 months for their medical benefits to kick in. If the medical wasn't fee in Canada (like USA) it wouldn't have mattered that much to them but since it is free, they will defenately be concerned. But again I am not sure about this but just wanted to give you a heads up.

We are all terminal !

Cancer can only be considered terminal when all the given treatments don't work, and the cancer keeps growing and spreading to all over the body or when the doctors see that the treatments will only make the person suffer more without having a good outcome.

I hope your wife's cancer is one that is curable and I hope she gets better soon.

My mother in law also found out about this horrible disease last december and she has already been through radiation and last week started chemotherapy. So far she is ok.
She has lung cancer(stage 4/ it spread to her bones).

I though in family class one cannot be refused due to medical reasons, as long as the general population is not being endangered.
Be strong, cancer can be cured. I know, not always, but yes, this in in fact one very possible outcome. Do not become a slave to this disease. Studies show a positive and active approach to physical illness, especially cancer, can affect the outcome. Eat healthy, be active, be social, get some psychological support, professional, in groups and from family.
I wish you all the best. It's gonna be tough, but you will make it.

Im really sorry to know about your wife- and i really pray God cures her soon and shes with you ASAP:) Not too sure about the time line since the visa office hasnt been specified...

I'm sorry to hear your wife has cancer, but don't worry about her PR application. Spouses and partners are medical-demand exempt. That means that even if she has a disease, they will not refuse her PR for that. If she were a FSW applicant or an investor-class applicant, then yes, cancer would be a reason for refusal.
CIC lets in spouses and partners who have HIV; they will let in a spouse with cancer as well.

As a spouse she is medical except, so it should be fine.
Im sorry to hear about your wife though! Ill pray for some strength for you both during this time!

I am not sure where you are living, but if it is outside Canada, my main concern would be interrupting her treatment to come to Canada, where she would have to go to the back of the line, get re-diagnosed, and then start treatments again. Delays are serious when treating cancer. So, maybe consider finishing her treatments where you live now, before landing in Canada.

Not the case bigmakdaddy. The USA is just as concerned with having to pay for those that have a disease and will have to be taken care of long term. For that reason, they can deny you even if you don't have a contagious disease. This is why we are applying for myself to live in Canada because my husband has a genetic disease that may make him ineligible to live there and also because they would be concerned we wouldn't have the funds to support him. And that he would have to visit the hospital more than so many times a year. My husband has 8 medications he has to have everyday to live and two of those medications each cost $1,000 a piece in the USA and that isn't including the others, the visits to hospital for routine visits, equipment, etc. All of those which he is blessed to have taken care of under the provincial healthcare for him. Thank the Lord. This is a reason I applied here because for one Canada is a place I would love to raise our kids but also my husband wouldn't deserve to even have the chance of being turned down because of a medical condition he was born with. Sorry for the rambling but I just want to state that the USA is just as concerned about the cost of the health system for an potential immigrant.

husband2010: I am very sorry dear. This must be such a tough time for you and your family. I pray you find strength through this. I also hope you receive helpful answers to assist you. Praying for you both and that you receive a positive answer soon. :-*

Thanks Danny4550,

Wow, This forum is amazing. Thank you all for your support. I am speechless Now. Yes, we are focused on her treatment and she is currently getting her treatment IN China. I am with her for the last 3 months. she has HK passport so her CHC is Hongkong. when we were applying it was saying 7-13 months processing times (if i remember it correctly!!). Now it shows 15 months. So yes she will need her MED again I think.
BTW , I am not really concerned about Canadian Permanent residency for her, The most important thing is her health. Everything else is secondary.
