My wife and I applied (she is american living in Canada) last year (May),and when I go on the wait times for how long it will still take it is saying 25 months (17 months initial assessment and they are only working on October of 2013 - and then another 8 months for medical security and background checks).

Has anyone else experienced these wait time under these same circumstances?
Also has anyone who is in the process of waiting applied to work under the Open Work Permit, and how long did that take until you were actually allowed to work?

Thanks

Hi,

Did you apply inland or outland? Secondly if you applied inland, if your wife has legal resident status, she can apply for an open work permit. Now I dont know how long that will take. Perhaps you might wanna do some research and find out about it. Outland applications are processed much more faster than inland applications...

We are doing it via inland, but it does not explain why it takes so long? Is there only a couple of people going through applications?
Is it quicker to withdraw the application and then apply via outland?

CIC prioritizes outland over inland.

Outland is MUCH MUCH faster for Americans. Current times seems to be 6-8 months from start to finish (which is actually considered slow compared to the 3-4 month of last year).

you should be aware that not applications are approved. Many are denied and have to appeal. At least Americans don't need a visa to come here and vica versa.

Because they are f******g useless.
:D

For those of you who finally received permanent residence, How long did it take you from start to finish. Those who applied inland.
We are finding it even takes a few months just to get the visitor record updated again.

There are a zillion threads on this, including one called INLAND APPLICATIONS 2014 or something like that - that gives you an idea, along with spreadsheets showing timelines. I think pretty much everyone is over 2 years.
