Has anyone already tried to make an extension of their WHP knowing that this would be refused, but just to keep an implied status? Would appareciate any experience feedback.

It depends what your objective is.

If your objective is to gain more work experience that you can count towards applying for PR, it most likely won't work since IRCC will reject your application (since you don't qualify to apply) and say that you fell out of status the day after your WHV expired (so you won't be able to count any work experience after that towards PR). You'll also end up in Canada without status and will have to apply to restore your status which can be a very long process.

If you want to stay in Canada a bit longer and work but have no plans to return once you leave or apply for PR, then you can certainly apply for the extension with the plan to leave as soon as it's refused.

EDIT: If your objective is just to be able to stay in Canada, the best option is to apply to change your status to visitor (of course you'll need to stop working once the WHV expires).
