Hi there,

According to the CIC website, immediate family for a student is defined as ones spouse, longterm partner and minor/dependent child/ren. In the case of a parent are they also seen as immediate family (to the student), if so would they all be eligible for work permit/TRV (if applicable as they are a citizen of a visa exempt country) if they accompanied their dependent child? Grateful for your response ;D

Thanks,
T

No - parents are not immediate family.

Hi

Thanks for your response. Well how can this be? If for instance I was the visa holder and wanted to take my children and could since they would be classed as immediate family, why is it not acceptable to have a mother as 'immediate family' if the student is the visa holder. Surely, it should be the same? Do you have any further information that shows that a parent is immediate family in one scenario but not in another?

Thanks
