Hi guys,

Im struggling with my research and would really like some help..

I am planning to come across to Canada this coming winter and stay for as long as I can. I have the finances to fund myself for the ski season.

However, ideally i would like to work at a resort in some capacity. I would also like to stay longer than just the ski season and maybe pick up a summer job next year. I have good strong ties back here in the UK (perm job, family, property etc) but perhaps down the line I would like to see myself moving permanatly.

What are your suggestions. Obviously I am not looking at coming over on a tourist visa then working ilegally.

Working holiday visa, check bunac.org

Does it say you have to be a student?

Thanks Leon. I didnt read it closely enough.

Tell me though, is it possible to apply for just a working visa then go job hunting when you get there.

Also, can you stay beyond a year?

With this program, it is a 1 year open work permit which means you can work anywhere. You can apply for it twice in your lifetime. In order to get a more permanent work permit, you would have to be tied to an employer who has to apply for your labour market opinion to show that he couldn't get a Canadian for the job and then you can only work for that employer at that job and location or you need a new permit.

In order to immigrate, you would have to qualify under some immigration class. If your job is skilled, you have a lot more options. If it is low skilled, you can not immigrate unless your occupation is covered under the provincial nominee program in your province and your employer is willing to sponsor you. Mainly BC and AB have low skilled occupations under there PNP's, some in the tourist industry.

The OP should know that is cheaper to go through IEC in the UK rather than Bunac. http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/united_kingdom-royaume_uni/experience_canada_experience/index.aspx?lang=eng&menu_id=7 Note that there are only 4500 IEC visas and 500 Bunac and they are going fast. So apply now.
