Hi Folks,

Can any senior IT professional guide me which technology is in more demand in Alberta out of the following:
1. PHP
2. JAVA (ENTERPRISE EDITION PROGRAMMING)

I need to enroll subjects for NAIT accordingly. I have an interest in JAVA(EEP) but not sure there are enough jobs in canada demanding this tech.

Thanks In Advance,

Jaimal.

Java hands down is what you need and you will easily land a job starting base of $80k. There is tons of jobs crying out for java programmers.

Jaimal, concentrate on what you are passionate about and what you enjoy doing the most. If you love building high end functionality for web sites and love the integration between the webt front end and back end databases, then PHP is for you. If you love building software that are complex, consists of business logic and rules and much more technology around it, then consider Java.

There is demand for both and it not regionally specific. In Alberta there would be demand for both. Both these technologies are pervasive in everyday life so it is hard to imagine Alberta not being affected by the need for PHP or Java.

It comes down to what you enjoy and what you are skilled at. That will decide how quickly you will stand out from others who are doing the same programming language.

Hope this helps.

I wouldn't worry too much about the technology, Alberta has lots of IT jobs, so any language is quite the same. Java has more market though.

Thank you so much for this valuable information to all the repliers!

For now I am going to enroll in java based on my interest and market value.
