Hello everyone,

I`m currently on a Working Holiday (IEC) visa that`s valid for 12 months (up until the beginning of November 2017). I`d like to stay longer in Canada and not have to leave by November. From what I`ve gathered, I can apply for a tourist visa and stay for another 6 months after my Working Holiday visa has expired.

Provided that I receive a tourist visa, is there any possibility to extend the tourist visa? I know that I can apply for the IEC twice, choosing a different option for the second application (i.e. co-op or young professionals), though I`m not sure if those are feasible options for me (personally). I know that you can apply for a new Working Holiday visa if you are a dual citizen. Unfortunately, my country is excluded from the list (Bulgaria).

Could I apply for permanent residency on a tourist visa? And could I do so without the express entry (skilled worker) option or without marrying my girlfriend?

My parents help me with funding, so I wouldn`t have to rely on having a paying job. Which options do I have to stay in Canada having health insurance and sufficient funding from outside to cover living expenses (i.e. me not having to rely on a paying job / work permit)?

Other information (in case it matters):
  • Swiss resident (German & Bulgarian citizenship)
  • in possession of travel health insurance (issued from Switzerland)
  • no other relatives living in Canada
  • post-secondary education –> will reveice my degree in October 2017 (doing online-studying)
  • little job experience

I`d greatly appreciate an answer!
Thanks

Yes - you can apply for PR while on a visitor visa. You girlfriend can sponsor you without getting married provided you are common law. To be classified as common law, you must have lived together for one year continuously and be able to prove it through evidence.
