Information is available on this forum for all steps of immigration process and subjects like landing, housing, telecom services, transport, monthly expenses and other formalities required to be completed by new immigrants. But the most important aspect, according to me at least, is to be able to settle down nicely in Canada in shortest possible time. This is the most difficult part. That is perhaps the reason most of the members stop remaining active on this forum. This is natural, as with time initial euphoria over getting Canadian immigration fades away, they get exposed to realities of Canadian job market and are too busy in trying to carve out a niche for themselves.
Could the guys, who are in Canada for a long time, guide the new immigrants in choosing the most suitable place to settle down, depending on the profession? I know there are considerations like presence of friends/relatives, personal choices, climate, etc. Of course, getting some Canadian qualification would be of immense help. But if someone, experienced enough, can advise new immigrants where they are likely succeed, based on their profession, it will be a great help.

Hi, Well said Thommo !

Cheers...

Dear Friend,

I am also looking to select best place according to my profession. I am Chemical Professional with 15+ years experience. Have some relatives in Toronto but confused where I should go. Please help me if possible to find out some appropriate link or guide related to this topic.

Thanks,
Mobe

Dear Thommo,
You also seem to be on Canadian land for almost two years, how about sharing your experience a bit :)
I feel lot depends upon your profession and plans that you are carrying with you. I being a mechanical engineer cant start my professional career rightaway, instead i need min one year to acquire PE and after that be able to do job in my profession. So for that period of one year, i would have to contend with some kind of low profile jobs that could at least run my kitchen. Thus a guy like me can afford to be little away from the city where rentals are cheap and later once i get PE can move near to the main cities. I have heard that in Ottawa, cost of living is comparatively low. But in a nutshell, one really needs to work his ass out to be able to integrate in that society and enjoy the PR he always longed for.

I think Alberta is the place for your friend. A lot of oil, mining, and chemical industries there.

For everybody else, do a little research on the CIC website or google it and you will find hundreds of articles for this which would be helpful.

Many thanks friend. I was planning for Toronto, Edmonton, Mississauga. Now I will look for Alberta too. Actually in previous cities mentioned I know few people & it was the only reason.

Thanks

FYI, Edmonton is in Alberta. Alberta is a province.

Latest survey says Calgary is the best place in Canada to settle down.. In both Job prospect and the salary rate Alberta is the best place. Also unemployment rate of Calgary is 4% way better than national average of 7%.

No friend, i am still hanging on to Dubai. I completed landing formalities two years back and returned to warmth of Dubai! The challenge of finding suitable employment in Canada is formidable one. I will try my luck soon on that. It goes without saying that one needs to struggle a lot to be successful. But, choosing the right place to move to could be very helpful. I heard Alberta is good for engineers. Is it good for civil engineers, too? Any experienced guys out there?
