Hello!
My husband is a Canadian citizen and I am a US citizen. We have been married almost 8 years and he has been living in the US for the past 12 years initially on a TN visa and then we obtained his greencard after we were married. We have 2 young children (5.5 yrs and 3.5 yrs), born in the US, but have submitted for proof of Canadian citizenship papers (submitted 4/3/18). My husband has taken a job in the Calgary area and will be starting work in mid-June. He will be moving there, with most of our belongings, in early June while myself and the children spend some time with my parents in Texas. We were advised to submit for my PR status as Inland, after I enter with the children, so that I can also apply for an open work permit. My question is, would it be safest to enter by land at a Montana/Alberta crossing, or would it be ok to fly into Calgary? We are planning to have my completed application, application payment receipt, and possibly a letter from an immigration lawyer stating we will be submitting within days of my entering the country. Would there be anything else we should have? Should I pre-purchase a plane ticket back to Texas for within 6 months of my arrival? Have a letter from my parents/sister stating I can stay with them should my application be denied, etc? I could probably get a letter from my current place of employment stating I could continue working with them as well. I don't believe we will have the children's proof of citizenship before we make the trek up north, but we will hopefully at least have the acknowledgement of receipt, along with their birth certificates showing my husband as father and his Canadian birth certificate. Any advice would be much-appreciated! Thanks in advance!
