They are supposed to provide you with a document that would have your IME number on it.

Exactly where are you asked for the upfront medical? This is no longer done for sponsorship applications as far as I am aware.

If they requested an upfront medical then that communication document stating this request would have the IME number. However, family class sponsorship does not request upfront medicals in recent years... you may be in the wrong section of the forum.
