when to extend visitor visa with outland sponsorship

My wife got approved for visitor visa and is coming to Canada in a couple weeks. We already have an outland sponsorship in progress but it's stuck.

When she arrives here when should I extend her stay and is it possible to have her here till her sponsorship decision is completed just like inland applications?

Extend her stay right before the 6 month mark if no date is specified in her passport when she arrives as a visitor and if she hasn’t received PR by then.
