Hello,

I'm a bit confused and hoping someone could guide me! I'm sponsoring my common-law partner for his permanent residency and I've just received the sponsor approval letter. I'm a Quebec Resident so I know I have to apply to CSQ but it does not say anywhere on my letter that I must now submit application to CSQ. Our file is still with CPC Mississauga but will soon be sent to a visa office. We do not know which one yet but I have my approval letter so can I submit an application with CSQ already?

Any advice would be much appreciated!!

Hi

Yes, you can apply for the CSQ now with the Sponsor Approval letter.

Ok thanks! So the approval letter does not have to mention CSQ in it, CSQ will still accept it as long as I've been approved, right? And I do not have to know my visa office before applying to CSQ?

You likely applied outland as for inland the CSQ comes before SA. At least, for inland, we receive a letter from CIC requesting to apply for the CSQ and the undertaking engagement. I would presume you should also receive a letter requesting you to apply.

you can try to contact the MIDI (contrary to CIC, you usually can get a line):
  • Montréal area: 514 864-9191
  • Elsewhere in Québec (toll free): 1 877 864-9191

Yes, they will still accept it.

You can only submit your undertaking application once you have received confirmation that your sponsorship application is has been approved by the IRCC.

For the VO, it is most likely Paris. The SA letter should have stated something like "The application for your family member has been transferred to _____".

In our SA, it says they will keep the file in Mississauga until we submit the Schedule A and they will send a confirmation letter once they ship the file to a VO.

I guess we have to wait for that 2nd letter before applying for the CSQ a s per the MIDI's checklist, we have to submit:

- a copy of the letter or email you received from the IRCC inviting you to continue your sponsorship process with the MIDI (guessing that will be part of the 2nd confirmation letter)
- the name of the CIC that will process the case (will also only be stated on the 2nd letter)

I've seen others on here apply for the CSQ with just the SA letter. Give MIDI a call and ask.

I guess, like for the rest of this process, nothing is consistent.

On a french forum, some people wrote theyr sent their CSQ request with the SA letter, which didn't mentioned the VO, and package was sent back.

Thanks a lot for everyone's help and suggestions! I called MIDI and they said they couldn't tell me what the letter from CIC should say but the sponsor approval is normally what they receive but couldn't tell me exactly. So I think I will just wait a few days and see if I hear anything from CIC about CSQ and if not I will call MIDI again and see what someone else says.
