I was wondering if my husband is able to "land" in Canada after our application is accepted, do I have to be in Canada first or can I go with him the same time? We are living in the US right now and I am sponsoring him to Canada. If I have to be in Canada before he lands, how long before him do I have to be there? thanks.

Since you have been residing exclusively outside of Canada for a while, it will be necessary for you to prove you will be returning to settle in Canada when your spouse is approved for PR. You may go with him at the same time when he goes to land, or you may go before. You shouldn't have him go ahead of you, though.

Actually, he can land on his own ahead of their move date. If he's issued the visa, CIC has already accepted the proof that the sponsor intends to re-settle in Canada.

Thanks! I am hoping we can land together cause we have 3 young kids. I didn't want to go before him. We plan to drive up there possibly...which will probrably take us about 5 days in total, stopping to sleep each night. We've done the trip before. So for sure I can go the same time? when I was in BC last time, we went to immigration to ask questions and I remember the lady said I have to land before him...to make sure i am there before him. If i can go the same time would be ideal.

Only if you were the principal applicant would you have to land first. Otherwise, there is no law that says he can't land without you being in Canada or accompanying him.

I was told that as the sponsor, I would have to be in Canada before him to wait for him to land.

You can land at the same time with your sponsored persons.

That would work out alot better for us! thanks!

We are going to move to Toronto but when we were visiting Vancouver, BC in the summer, we went to the immigration office to ask questions and the lady told me I have to be in Canada first before my husband lands.
