PR application has been filed but haven't heard anything back from them yet, application is for spousal sponsorship while within Canada, but work permit is expiring soon

Should we put in an application to extend work permit now even before hearing back on the PR application?

We are scared that her open work permit will expire before they get on with processing the PR application, which will create extreme hardship as it would totally uproot our lives and my work (I am her husband that is sponsoring her, I'm a Canadian citizen) and really don't want to leave Canada, being apart is not something we could even imagine. Her documents (open work permit, Social Insurance Card) expire very soon so at this point time is something that stresses our piece of mind every day that goes by.

or is there some other kind of status extension we should apply to, in lieu of a work permit? our biggest concern is not having to leave the country of course, although it would be nice if she can continue to work while we wait for the PR application to process

so do we have to wait for some kind of acknowledgement that they have received her PR application, or can we get something in the works to make sure that her status to be in the country is maintained with the looming work permit expiry date coming soon?

I am stressed thinking of images of her PR application envelope buried on someone's desk in a mountain of work they have and it won't even get looked at in time and we will be faced with her work permit expiring and all kinds of nightmare scenarios like me having to leave my work here and live in limbo in some far away country just to be together :(

You should have submitted an OWP app WITH the PR app. There is no need to wait for CIC to start processing the PR app. Submit it now.

A requirement of inland is that you both live together IN Canada. so you cannot leave and live in another country while the app is processing.

thanks... should we apply for an extension or apply for a new one? sorry if it's a dumb question, I don't want to get tripped up filling out the wrong forms for this situation, as her old OWP was based on graduating university in Canada, whereas the new one would be based on waiting for PR processing to get started...

her current OWP expires in a couple months

She needs to apply for a new OWP based on the PR app. It has nothing to do with her current work permit.

what form should we use? it is a little confusing, the form I found is an extension form IMM5710... would this also work for the situation of needing a new OWP now for the PR application wait?
