When should I apply for the immigration visa?

Hi.
I am currently a fourth year university student and my graduation will be taken in place sometime in May, 2011. Anyhow, I just got a full time job offer (starting may, 2011, after my graduation) as a laboratory assistance from my supervisor at my university.
Do you think I can apply for the immigration visa right away? or do I need to wait until I receive my degree next year?
