When providing passport as supporting documents, does it have to include an valid Visa to Canada?

Hello again, I am an international students preparing to attend university and Canada. When applying for study permit, one of the required document is passport. I am confused over how the instruction links me to the page for visitor Visa application. Do I need to first receive an Visitor Visa before I can apply for study permit? Or can I simply upload my passport information.

just upload your passport info along with any stamps or visas on your passport. you don't need a visitor visa to apply for a study permit
