Hi everyone,

I'm confused about Implied Status and your help would be appreciated!

My studies finish next month and I will apply for PGWP as soon as my studies end. However, I plan to travel outside Canada after I've applied for PGWP.

Now I'm confused when exactly does implied status begin? The information I found on CIC isn't clear about this. Also, my student permit is valid till end of the year.

The reason I ask is because I read that if I leave Canada while on implied status, I need a valid TRV to re-enter, but I'm not sure if my student visa which is valid till end of this year is considered a valid TRV upon entry?

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated! If you've been in same situation before, please share your experience.

You need a vaid TRV just to board a plane back to Canada as your study permit is not a travel document so implied status or not is not relevant you need a valid TRV regardless.

As far as work and PGWP is concerned then the moment you submit your PGWP application you are entitled to work

Of course with current emergency who knows when travel, airlines specifically, will return to normal .

No, I'm not talking about the permit. There's an S-1 Student visa printed on my passport which I got when I arrived in Canada, that's a TRV I supposed?
Technically it would have been expired once you graduate and leave the country. When you re-enter, the border officer would ask why you're entering on a student visa but you're not going to study. You may or may not face difficulties reentering.

Yes, that is a TRV. As long as it is valid, you can travel to Canada (of course, taking into consideration all closures etc. right now that could otherwise prevent travel).

TRVs are valid until the actual expiry date. CBSA will not have any issue with OP returning on their current TRV.

Awesome thank you!

If you leave the country I would be prepared to have to stay out of Canada until the pandemic resolves. The borders are going to tighten across the world so getting back may be impossible for a while.

Yea, I don't plan to leave now, but by end of May if the travel restrictions are lifted. Thanks for the advice!
