I (a Canadian citizen) and my wife (from Slovakia) married in April 2007 and we applied for permanent resident status in May 2007 (along with her two teenage children) but I'm still having to pay international student fees for her kids to go to high school. The school district (in the Okanagan) says I need to be their legal guardian yet my lawyer says that I actually am - despite which I continue to be forced into paying as we await status. It's killing me financially. When can they actually go to school without me having to pay? I get so much conflicting information on this. Please help.

I would think as soon as you prove to the school district that you are the children's legal guardian.

Why don't you ask the school district what proof they need?

i thought u could show proof that you have filed for PR and province laws state every child must goto school regardless of parents resident status, what province are you in? you might want to check that part out.
