Hi everyone,

I've had a look for the answer to this question and can't seem to find it anywhere so I was wondering if you guys can help me out.

When can my husband start working in Canada? Is it as soon as he lands or does he have to wait to receive his Permanent Residence card?

Thanks in advance :)

I believe it is once he can apply for and receive a social insurance number.

I'll have to look it up but I'd guess he'd need the PR card.

1. He goes to a Service Canada office, with the passport with the COPR in it and applies for a SIN. He will be given the no. immediately and then he can start work. The card comes in 2-3 weeks

Thanks very much for your responses.

I was actually told you can apply to jobs before you actually get a SIN number, just showing your PR card proves that you have legal status, but I'm sure there are places where you can't work until you get your SIN.. but something to keep in mind : )

Yes you can work without the sin number,if your employer allows it he just can not pay your taxes and such until you give him the number. And i would assume that an employer would like to know you are going to apply asap.

he needs to have his social insurance number first then he is able to work once he lands you can go to your nearest employment office and register him for one have him bring his passport with visa and landing papers once he lands at airport stating day and place and time he landed in canada and also any id with his pic and name on it he will get a piece of paper with his number on it but won't recieve his actual card for at least 1-2 weeks

Also get him registered for health card right away because it does take 3 months for card to come in and can not receive any medical attention without paying for it

Good Luck
