Hello Me Again,

I would like to know once our sponsorship application has been sent and everything is up and running (rome 10 month wait) I would like to move back home to Canada with our kids, but dont want them to stay too long without their father. Does my husband have to stay in Italy until the very end (he receives passport) or is there a way he can come and finish the process from there. Someone told me about a Visa he can obtain to come with us which lasts one year. is this true...I would like to keep our family together as our kids are 2 and 4 (quite small)....Any information would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thank You!

He can always visit Canada as long as he has a tourist visa or is visa exempt just like he could before you applied. While he is visiting, he wouldn't be able to work (lots of time to be a daddy!) and he'd need to fly back to Italy if an interview was requested. If he needs a tourist visa and doesn't already have one, they are usually hard to get once you apply for spousal sponsorship since you have shown intent to move and they can therefore question whether your visit will be temporary or not. Similarly, these questions can be asked at the border so be sure to take info to show his ties to Italy to be able to convince folks he won't overstay his visa. Once he is in Canada, you can apply to extend his 6 month visa.

If he's Italian, he's visa exempt. For other countries check http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas.asp
