My husband is going to sponsor me here in Canada and I'm from the States (I have been here since the wedding in February on this trip). We are applying Outside of Canada and I will just keep extending my 6 month stay to remain while it's being processed and then obviously as his wife forever. Can I work or get a work visa before the decision is made or must I wait until they say that I'm a PR?? Thank you!

If you are applying outland, you can only work after you receive PR but US citizens seem to be getting PR within 6 months. If you apply inland through Canada you can get a work permit within 4 months. Going by the Inland spreadsheet, the time to get PR is around 14 months (CIC's website list it as 26 months but that's a worse case scenario - my spouse and I put the data into a graph and only one person received theirs at 26 months).

The vast majority of Inland applicants have waited over 2 years to get their PR. Unless something drastic has changed at CIC (like they added staff, or the hamster got back onto the wheel) in the last few months, I wouldn't count on 14 months. Besides, Outland really is the fastest option for an American.

PS... you CAN work remotely for a US employer or as an independent contractor while in canada as a visitor. You just can't work for a Canadian employer (or service Canadian clients as a business owner/independent contractor).

Yes, that is true. I am a July 2015 applicant so guess I am just getting excited as I can see that they're working on Feb 2015 apps....shouldn't get hopes up with CIC though haha.
