My boyfriend and I have been together for 3 years and plan on moving to Canada. He was born there and has dual citizenship to the US. I was born in the US and I would like to know if dual citizenship for me is possible so when I want to come visit my family I can with no problems. He is completely set, but what would I have to do to live and work as a Canadian citizen and still be a US citizen as well. What do I do, where do I go and what forms do I need? Help please, I would love to be considered a permanent citizen in both countries.

Others will comment but just on the citizenship question.

First your boyfriend would need to sponsor you for permenant residence assuming that he can do that if you have been living together for at least 12 months in a common law relationship or get married of course.

Once you are a PR you would need to physically reside in Canada for at least 4 years out of the following 6 years before you could apply for citizenship.

Becoming a PR first and as a US citizen would achieve most of what you want to live and work and cross back and forth with the only provision being as a PR you just have to meet residency obligation on an ongoing basis, 2 years out of every 5 in Canada. Citizenship is a long term plan.

@Bs65 is correct

Besides that, dual Canada/US citizen has implication in tax obligations that you might want to consult an accountant specializes in US/Canada tax. But your boyfriend probably knows that already
