Employment Insurance is not considered as income. This is what i copied from CIC website

"Employment insurance: only maternity, parental and sickness benefits paid under the Employment Insurance Act are considered income. Other payments such a employment insurance and federal training allowances are not considered as income; and"

Those of you sponsoring relatives should take note.

That's intriguing since you have to report EI as income on your tax return in Canada...

It's been a while since I was on it but I believe so. You get a separate 'T4' slip (called a T4a or T4c or something .. I think). But as far as I know it is still taxable income.
