So, I posted the other day how frustrated I am getting with the the employers ignoring me because it would be extra work for them to hire me. :-X

So my boyfriend and I were talking and he thought maybe I should try to open up where I apply too. I have only been applying to Health Care Aide/ Personal Support Worker programs, since I am certified here in the US. But is there other jobs that are more in demand that I should be looking into? We are willing to move to Ontario or Alberta. And what sucks is I am a little limited on where exactly because he is in the Army so we would have to live within an hour max. drive to a base. But other then that I am willing to work any job at almost any rate so that we can be together. We are spending more money flying back and forth seeing each other than we even have. So yea, I am desperate any help would be appreciated!! :D

Hi Katester,

If you're a CNA, you could look into nanny/care-giver. There's usually a few people in Calgary seeking a care-giver for their disabled child at any time. Many of them are willing to do a LMO. If he's in the Army and you qualify, you could even look into Live-in caregiver if you're interested. Live-out LMO jobs are fewer, but you can find them. I would imagine you'd be able to find some jobs in a city in Ontario too.

I happen to know several good nanny sites. My sister-in-law was a live-in caregiver before she married my brother :D

As a live in care giver then wouldn't I have to live in with the person I am taking care of? My boyfriend is in the Army but doesn't live on base. He would get an apartment where ever I can get job. So he would have an apartment within an hour from the base so I would want to live with him. So I don't think live in care giver would work. Would I ever even get time to see him in that job? Aren't you working technically 24 hrs a day??

You can look into Live-Out caregiver as well. The LMO jobs for a live-out nanny/caregiver are less than live-in, but you can find them. I know a lady that works as a live-out nanny with a work permit and is allowed to bring her son to work with her as well. If you target disabled families as well, they seem to be willing to go a little extra to find great help for their child/parent.

Live-in: You're only allowed to work 44 hours a week before being paid overtime. You can also report abusive employers to CIC. (When you call and have to sit through their speech, they include that option.) Some employers will allow you to "visit" your boyfriend Friday afternoon/evening until Sunday night or Monday morning, but yes, during the work week, you would need to live in the home. I'll stop going into details, however, because this doesn't really sound like a good option for you (based on your reaction!). I don't blame you either!

You also have to give it some time. In any job search, it always takes a while to find a job. It might seem like forever, but 2-3 months is actually a good turn around time.
