A friend of mine from Toronto sponsored a German boyfriend of 2 years back in 2011. They're relationship was mainly long distance and they didn't have proof of living together (because they never did). They had a joint bank account (which she never used), they got both their families to write letters legitimising their relationship, they showed joint plane tickets, stamps, emails, photos, they were both interviewed, they had to explain why they couldn't live together, they and insurance together, he had to get medical exam etc.. But after applying it took 3 months and he was accepted?
I have now got the same problem where I would love for my British boyfriend to live with me in Canada. So what's the name of this visa?

It doesn't sounds like you're getting the full story from your friend.

The name of the visa is a conjugal visa. If your boyfriend is British, there is really nothing stopping you from living together or getting married (no real immigration barriers to either) and you should expect a conjugal application to be refused. It will also not take three months to process. I would expect you'll wait for over a year only to have it refused. If you want to sponsor him you either need to become common law or get married. If you're not willing to do either, then he should look into other means for coming to Canada (e.g. working holiday visa if he's the right age - although all of the spots for this year are already taken).

You can certainly go the conjugal route if you insist. However expect long processing time and expect that it's extremely likely the process will end in refusal. Again, I don't think you are getting the full story from your friend and there is far more she hasn't told you (or that you haven't told us).
