What happens if i don't opt in for the PGWP extension?

Hi. I hold a PGWP that expires in this November. I got an email from IRCC saying I am eligible to opt in.
It turns out I get the 18 months from the date of approval. If I opt in before May 20, I will likely receive a new permit in June and lose my 6 months.

So I am considering skipping this opt in thing.

My question is, will i still be able to extend my PGWP under the policy later if i don't opt in?

I know it will cost some money but what i would do to keep half a year.

You cannot opt in once your WP expires
