In the Document Checklist, the third item is "photocopies of biological pages of passports and/or travel documents covering the five (5) years immediately before the date of your application....Note: If your passport validity was extended, include a photocopy of the pages containing extension stamps.

What does it mean by "passport validity was extended"? And what are "extension stamps"??

My current passport is the second one in my personal history. My first passport expired 6.5 years ago.

On one page of my current passport, there is a red stamp from the issuing office and a sentence:"Observations:The passport NO. xxxxxxxx of the P.R.C. was issued to the bearer of this passport."

Does this page means my passport validity was extended? Should I provide a photocopy of this page?

If yes, do I aslo need to provide the photocopy of the bio page of my old passport? It expired 6.5 years ago.

Thanks a lot!!!

It means what it says: a passport was issued with a limited validity and then that same passport was later extended. "Extension stamp" is also exactly that: a stamp in the passport stating that extension.

A new passport is not an extension.

Many countries have abandoned the practice of extending passports altogether. It is quite likely that your passport doesn't even have the possibility to be extended. Instead you just got a new passport. This is the common practice nowadays for many countries. In particular, if your passport is an E-Passport with a chip inside, it obviously can't be extended anymore.

Long story short: If you don't know what an extension stamp is, it is basically certain that your passport has no such stamp.

If your passport has been extended, it will have a Seal in a different page, that basically says "This passport no. ### ### has been extended till XX, XXXX".
