I am an RN here in the Philippines and is planning to study in Canada. Is it a good decision to take up Nursing or Practical Nursing since it will keep me from further assessment when I apply for registration or should I get a PG diploma course to avoid refusal?

Hi,
As a RN from Philippines, you 've option to pursue Nursing bridging course... which are basically designed for internationally educated nurses, who wish to convert their nursing degree equivalent to Canadian degree and be eligible to write nursing registration examination.
Another is the pursuing of a lower level diploma level- 2 years practical nursing diploma, which is 1 step below degree Nurses. This is also an option for internationally educated nurses.

Nurses are in demand all over the world..and with right mix of education and experience, they can easily get PR, earn a lot(as compared to in Philippines ). You should definitely look forward to make use of your nursing degree.

Some of the bridging nursing programmes/ practical nursing diploma offered for foreign trained nurses/ internationally educated nurses:

http://www.centennialcollege.ca/Programs/ProgramOverview.aspx?Program=9352

To find more such programmes, you need to do do a research in detail, on your own..as to find out the exact type of course you will want to pursue in a college/province.

To start, visit this link of all recognized Colleges and universities, where after completion of your course... you'll be eligible for OCWP+PGWP:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/institutions/participants.asp

Then visit individual websites of all colleges/Universities and start looking for a programme, you would want to pursue. You may even search province wise..as to which province may hold more interest for you. There are many colleges offering 2 years Practical nursing diploma. You can look into that. But it will be better if u find..a degree level bridging/conversion course in Nursing.

Hope it helps.

Best of Luck.
