Is it gonna be a problem that the principal applicant is currently applying for job seekers allowance in view to getting employed within the next month?

Will this go against us?

Right.. EI is not welfare.. you pay into EI when you work so you aren't taking anything from the government.

Thank you People!

Principal applicant? Or the sponsor? Either way, EI is not welfare as others have posted.

What is the official name of what the applicant is receiving? There is something here in Saskatchewan that is called a 'pre-employment allowance' or some such, but it is actually welfare. The government is trying to make it look like all these people are just 'pre-employed' and will be off the welfare rolls soon, but it is still just welfare. If what your applicant is getting is the equivalent of this, then yes, it is welfare and he/she shouldn't do it.
