Hello,

I am a Canadian citizen sponsoring my wife to Canada. Today we picked up her stamped passport & PR Confirmation (thankfully!).

On the PR confirmation it says her destination is Ajax, ON. It says my address as the sponsor is Ajax. The problem is I live with my parents but have been outside the country with my wife for 8 months.

During these 8 months my parents moved to Belleville, ON. I couldn't inform an address change because I never went back to Canada to legally change it. All my documents and registration are still Ajax, ON.

Now when she lands I know she'll be quistioned where she's going. She'll be honest and say Belleville but will this cause problems? I will give her my valid driver's licence to show them that my legal address is still the old one because I was not in Canada to change it.

Should I worry?

Much appreciated!

This is fine. You can notify them at landing that your address has changed. You should do so, so that the PR card ends up in the proper place.

Changing your address with the drivers' license office will have no impact on the address the CIC has for you. You should possibly also report the changed address via webform.

Great! Thank you very much. We had no intentions on hiding anything about the change, we were just a little worried it could cause problems. Glad to hear otherwise

Of course. CIC gets that addresses change. Just be up front at landing - "my address has changed and is no longer what is on the COPR."
