My wife is Russian and we married in Dominican Republic in February. In the document checklist they ask me for a wedding certificate and they also ask her for one. We have one original, it was in Spanish she translated it and made a certified copy in Russian to legalize the marriage in her country and later she also did this in English. So now it's a small pile of the original Spanish copy to Russian to English.

Do I also need to send one ? and if yes I guess I have to translate and certified in English or French (I live in Quebec)

You can have the Spanish marriage certificate translated into English by the dominican consulate in Toronto. I sent mine in by mail. It's i believe $40us for the translation and legalization. It was fairly simple. You c an google the dominican consulate and on their site they have the mailing address and phone number if you have questions.

When the return it to you they will send the original back for you to keep and make copies for you to send in for immigration. Just make sure you include a letter saying you are applying for sponsorship and they should be quite helpful.

I'm married to a Russian woman, we wed in Barbados so our certificate was already in English, I only sent one copy of it to CIC and we had no problems. It will have to be translated but one copy will be enough.

You will probably find multiple instances where, between the forms and the two document checklists, you are asked from something more than once. You don't need to send the same thing twice, unless it specifically says "send two copies", "send 4 photos", etc.

CIC will take apart your application and they will make sure you've provided everything you are supposed to. So even if you don't include a wedding certificate in your section of forms, it will be in your wife's and it will be accounted for.

For our application, any place it asked both my husband and myself for the same thing, ie. "provide proof of your wedding"...we answered the question and wrote "please see proof of relationship folder". Everything that proved our relationship from our marriage certificate to photos were separated out from our individual form.
