Hello everyone,

Please give your thoughts and experiences on this:

We will be completing 4 years of residency as PR's on 11/2017. If we want to apply for Canadian Citizenship for our son "now" (He will be turning 18 on 06/10/2017), can we do it?. I believe there are no physical presence requirement for minors. Even though my son is living in Canada for three years, I don't want to wait until new 3/5 rule come in effect (If it does) which most likely could create backlogs for some time. Does one of the parents has to be citizen for this purpose.? Any effect on family application later on?

Also Is it better to file family application (4 members) or file separately if they meet physical presence requirement on different dates?. I believe we wont save any money on family application.

Thank you all!.

You can't apply for him separately.

You would need to submit his application at the same time as your own:

Minor children must:

be under 18 years of age at the time of the application;
be a permanent resident of Canada;
have at least one parent (includes adoptive parent) who is a Canadian citizen or who will become a citizen at the same time as the child (applying together as a family).

Thanks Scylla. You have always been very helpful. Cheers!
