Hello There I am very new here as I'm glad that I have found this site as it looks very promising for advice. My question is I own a restaurant here in Canada Halifax, Nova Scotia. I've known my friend for a very very long time and shes been wishing to come to Canada to live and work to start a new life here.

What I am curious about is how do I hire her for my business She's Filipino speaks perfect english but we both have no idea about the immigration process would love to get some guidance on what I as the employer needs to do, and what she needs to do.

All the Advice will be very much appreciated.

Thank You, :)

If you want to hire her, then your first step will be to obtain an approved Labour Market Opinion for the position:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/employers/lmo-basics.asp

Before you can actually apply for the LMO, you will need to advertise the position for at least a month to prove that no Canadians could be found for the role. There are also other requirements you must meet. Start by reading the information in the link above.

You need to apply for an LMO (labour market opinion) from Service Canada.

Here are some helpful links: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/employers/lmo-basics.asp
http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/eng/jobs/foreign_workers/

The purpose of an LMO is to prove that you have advertised the job and have been unable to find a Canadian who wanted or was qualified for the job. Yet that you are offering market wage for the position is decided by Service Canada.

If you get the LMO for your friend, your friend would need to apply for a work permit. In order to get it, immigration may look at if she is qualified for the job and if she is likely to overstay in Canada.

If she gets the work permit, she can come over and start working.

If she wishes to immigrate to Canada, it would be better if the position you get her is skilled. Options for low skilled workers to immigrate are limited.
