I have three children, Seven, Three, and < one years old, As well as my wife. I want to immigrate us all up there (Im from the U.S.). I was wondering what the best way to do this is. I would like to finish college and we are planning on staying near the border so that my wife would be able to work in the states still untill i finish school. Would my children need student visas? any information would help.

thank you

You want to study in Canada? As you apply for your study permit, your wife can apply for an open work permit. You would need a study permit for the 7 year old and TRV's for the 2 younger children. Depending on which province you end up going to, you may get healthcare for the whole family. In some provinces, students might not be covered or spouses on open work permits not covered so that is one thing to consider when you pick a province.

It is best if you do a 2 year course. After 6 months, you can apply for an off campus work permit which would allow you to work up to 20 hours a week during the semester and full time when you are on holidays. When you graduate, you can apply for a post-grad work permit which is also an open permit, can work for any employer up to 3 years. That should be enough time for you to apply for PR either through a provincial nominee program or through Canadian Experience class.
