Hi everyone,

I did my landing in early December of last year in Etobicoke, completed all the required paperwork, and was told the card would arrive in ~55 days.

Fast forward to today, I still haven't received the card. I've been calling CIC almost daily for the last month to no avail. Today, I was told my application was referred to "additional checks" on February 11. The person on the phone was unable to tell me what that entailed or how long it would take...

Has anyone ever been through this? What could it mean? How long might it take? Is there a chance they might reject me?

Thanks

Edit: On my landing, I got the COPR stamped out. I then offered the officer forms IMM5444 and 5455 but I was told I don't need them for the first PR card. I found that odd.

You don't need to fill out any forms for your very first PR card. They send this in and then you get your card. Perhaps you were 'chosen' for quality control and you will have to pick your card up in person. I landed the end of December in Windsor and received my card roughly 2 weeks ago now.

I see. So this isn't something I need to worry about too much then? Just a delay?

Yes, I would not worry too much about it at all. I would call again next week and see if you can get a more helpful CIC call agent. A lot of them are useless, but a few are helpful, just have to keep calling until you get that one ;)
