Hi All,

I have applied for Citizenship and waiting for my Test invite.

I am from India and it doesn't allow dual citizenship , which means I will loose my Indian citizenship.

I know I can get OCI which is a life long Visa to be there whenever I want but still I am having emotional setback about this big change.

Is this the situation with others as well ? please share your thoughts.

Thanks

My oath is on Monday. I don't know what I'm more happy about becoming a Canadian or losing my South African citizenship (which happens automatically unless you apply for permission).

You should be asking yourself why you left India and the answer probably boils down to "Canada is better". The feeling you have is simply because you are giving up something you have had your whole life and its a comfort zone thing. The truth is Indian citizenship, like South African is completely worthless. So I wouldn't have any regrets.

I am from India. I tell myself that OCI gives most of the practical needs to visit India and to stay for extended time. And if in future u do want to get back Indian citizenship that's possible as well after being a OCI for 5 years. Not sure how long or through what hoops one has to go through to get the Indian pp back but that's an option...so. But again I do not find it emotional losing a piece of book!! What has that got to do with identity anyway?
