I dont understand why you have to wait 8-12 weeks for a certificate. It says on the website that you apply for it on. On what grounds would you not be able to get it after 8 weeks and have to wait until 12 weeks? I want to apply for PRV as soon as i get this and the extra months wait would be annoying!! How long once you apply for it does it take them to mail it to you (canadian address)?

Hi!

Apply for it right after your wedding. Once it's ready, they will deliver it to you as soon as possible. It will take less than 8-12 weeks, don't worry. I got married in Ontario and I had it a month after my wedding. It arrived 3 days after I ordered it.

Good luck!

;D wow so soon?! I am getting married in ontario also! This is good news means I can apply for my visa much earlier than I originally planned! Is there any way you can track when they are going to send it because I wanted to book a flight and be there when it's delivered so we can post the application off the next day!

The issue is that (in Ontario) it takes time to register the marriage and then you request the marriage cert thereafter. Its the former, not the latter process that takes so much time.

Tips: Make SURE you tell your clergy person (or whoever is doing your service) to please submit the paper work as promptly as possible. Legally they have to do it within 2 days of the service, but Ive heard stories of missing signatures and other delays.

IF you are applying for your marriage cert, send a letter explaining that you require the marriage cert for immigration purposes (and even include a copy of the immigration checklist, to prove it).

This helped us get everything done within 2 weeks.
Where are you in Ontario?

Ok will do! Getting married in Toronto! Should i apply for the certificate the day after the wedding with a note explaining its for immigration purposes? If i could get it in 2 weeks that would be fantastic because I would still be there 2 weeks after the wedding ;D This changes my plans alot I now need to get my medical and police clearance alot sooner!!!

Find out who your mayor is in TO, and phone their office to inquire about whether they can help speed up the process for you by requesting the marriage cert on your behalf.
It's worth the phone call.

I am in Ontario as well. We signed an additional document during the ceremony that released the marriage license to us to submit to Sudbury on our own. We got married on 4/17, we couriered it to Sudbury the next day (4/18), was received on 4/19. We sent in the request for X amount of copies and that it be rushed for immigration along with the license. We received our marriage certificates less than two weeks later (4/30).

The additional document was a legal document my officiant provided that waived him of the resposibility to submit the license for processing and that my husband and I were taking it upon ourselves. Sudbury is the city where the lisence is processed (for Ontario). And oops...it should be Thunder Bay, my apologies. Getting confused with the CRA stuff.

That is the form we sent along with it, with the appropriate payments as well. We also sent a cover letter explaining the reason we needed it rushed.

Sorry to bring up this topic again. I submitted my marriage license application on sept 15th and i see they have charged my CC right away. But the status update says that they dont have any registered marriage unders the names but to wait for 10 weeks time. We got married on the 4th of august and sent our paprers next day. Thunder bay recieved the papers on the 7th.

So charging my CC means the application has been processed?

This is the only thing that is holding up me sending our application , it sucks big time . i got married 19th of Dec 2013 and it still shows up in process . Ontario takes 8-10 weeks to registry the wedding then you have to wait two weeks if you have already ordered it to have them sent it out . I called explaining that i needed it for immigration , there response was are you getting deported , if not you have to wait the valid time. When you order it it asks the purpose of the certificate , it makes no difference. Still checking mail box and on line services every day .

Hi Taffy,
I was wondering if you have received your marriage certificate by now. Or please update when you do. Just want to get an idea of current processing times, as we are also waiting for one.

Thanks,

I am in Alberta and things seem to be done very differently province to province.

But here is what I did:

We were married by a marriage commissioner on a Saturday. Thankfully, she had experience with people needing a marriage certificate faster.

She met me at the registry office on Monday and told them she needed a rush marriage certificate. They said it was impossible, could not be done, all they could do is ask for a rush but they couldn't guarantee it and because it was August and there was lots of marriages, the registry lady said it would likely take 6-8 weeks.

So we left and went to another registry office. Got a kind lady who phoned the people who issue the marriage licenses and explained it was needed faster for an immigration application. They explained to the registry lady how to enter it on the computer system.

I paid the extra fee. I can't remember exactly how much but less than $100.

I got my certificate two days later on the Wednesday

Nope i called them last week and they said i had to wait the full 10 weeks. This will this coming Thursday. Then it takes another 2 weeks after that .I paid for this in January. It doesn't matter that they have charged my CC .I told them this was the only thing i was waiting for but it didn't matter .
