Hi,

My work permit expired and i overstayed in Canada for 2 months and then i got the option to depart voluntary in the next 10 days. My question is that what was my status in Canada for the 2 months that i stayed there after my work permit expired?

Thank You

For those 2 months, you were out of status. If you had wanted to stay, the proper way would have been to apply to change your status to visitor 30 days before your work permit expired. If you had done that, you would have been under implied status until hearing back. If they would have refused, you would have had to leave.

Leon, doesn't the OP have 90 days from expiration of work permit to restore status? If the OP is still within the 90-day period, can't he/she apply for restoration instead?

Yes, there is a grace period of 90 days after losing his status that he could have applied for restoration, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5551ETOC.asp#restoration
