I am here to get an answer for my Father. He's lived in Canada for many years without a status. Now he would like to return to our home country. He wants to turn himself to inmigration and voluntarily leave the country. Most likely he'll be detained, but for how long will he be detained? If he has his flight ticket ready, will they just let him go? Or will they detain him for a long period of time? Your answers and information would be greatly appreciated.

Just tell him to checkin for his flight and leave the country . Do not purposely involve immigration at all given there is no need to do so unless they are already involved and he has already received a departure order as only adds an unnecessary step. He has overstayed so that is all done now but getting immigration involved now serves no purpose so just leave, nobody gets stopped leaving unless there is an arrest warrant out for them for some criminal activity. Overstayers are welcome to leave at the earliest opportunity.
